Teaching and courses
Dear students,
Welcome to the Institute of General Practice and Family Medicine! Our aim is to provide medical students with a comprehensive understanding of primary care in Germany and with the knowledge and skills for a future career in General Practice. The following gives you a brief overview of our teaching and courses:
Course „General Practice and Family Medicine“ (Module 23, 7th clinical semester)
Lectures take place every Wednesday from 14:00 to 15:30 p.m. as an interactive zoom format. Lecturers are both staff members of the Institute of General Practice and Family Medicine and practicing GPs.
Seminars take place every Wednesday from 16:30 to 18:00 p.m. - currently also in interactive zoom format. Seminars are taught by practicing GPs. The seminar is a compulsory course and is graded.
The written exam takes place at the end of the semester. It is a 1h-presence exam with 40 multiple choice questions.
The grade for the General Medicine course is made up of the combination of the written exam grade (60%) and seminar grade (40%).
Practical course (“Blockpraktikum”) in general medicine (Module 6, from 8th clinical semester)
The practical course (“Blockpraktikum”) involves a mandatory introductory day at the university, a two-week internship at one of our teaching GPs and a final personal 10-minute telephone conversation with one of our medical staff members.
The introductory day takes place twice a semester: either at the beginning of the semester or at the beginning of the holiday. You can choose which one you wanted to attend. The introductory day is a mandatory class-room event.
The two-week internship is to be completed after the introductory day either during the semester or the semester break. The internship is a mandatory course and is graded.
In a final personal telephone conversation with one of our medical staff members a patient epicrisis prepared by the student is discussed and evaluated. The telephone call takes place after the internship.
