Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a myocardial disease characterized by left ventricle hypertrophy, Myofibers disarray, and myocardial fibrosis. The role of Inflammation in cardiac muscle malfunction has recently gained increasing interest. For instance, Inflammation and related mechanisms have been identified to play a crucial role in affecting the physiology and pathophysiology of the myocardium. Due to the pleiotropy of the disease and the limitation of the current clinical approaches, HCM represents a challenge, especially when it comes to personalized diagnosis and non-interventional therapeutics. In this project, we aim to establish and utilize patient-specific hIPS-derived Cardiomyocyte models to identify and dissect the role of inflammatory responses (cytokines as well as other inflammation drivers) in HCM and their role in Extracellular Matrix (ECM) remodeling. I employ gene editing techniques to study the role of some candidate pro-inflammatory markers in the Structural and functional characteristics of Cardiomyocytes as well as understanding the crosstalk with resident Fibroblast cells.
