LMU Clinician Scientist of the Year 2025: Dr. med. Kami Alexander Pekayvaz

At the annual reception of the LMU Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Kami Alexander Pekayvaz from the Department of Medicine and Polyclinic I (Cardiology) was honored for his work "Multiomic analyses uncover immunological signatures in acute and chronic coronary syndromes." (Nature Medicine, 2024) as LMU Clinician Scientist of the Year 2025. Here he tells us more about his research and his daily inspiration as a Clinician Scientist.

About my excellent publication

This publication unravels for the first time the comprehensive response of the circulating immune system to myocardial infarction in humans. Furthermore, this study provides evidence that the use of modern omics methods could potentially diagnose cardiovascular diseases or predict their progression. In summary, this study could open up a new research field of predictive omics analysis in cardiovascular medicine and further represents a globally accessible atlas of the immune system in myocardial infarction as well as in chronic coronary heart disease for the cardiovascular research field.

My motivation for the research

The comprehensive decoding of inflammatory diseases and the subsequent development of potential strategies to better diagnose or treat them.

My daily inspiration as a clinician scientist

The opportunity to diagnose and treat inflammatory diseases as well as to test new disease-related hypotheses in the laboratory.

My goals

To contribute to breakthrough insights that will shape the understanding and treatment of cardiovascular diseases in the future.
