Building on its more than 500-year-long tradition, it offers a broad spectrum that covers all areas of knowledge within its 18 Faculties, ranging from the humanities, law, economics and social sciences, to medicine and the natural sciences. The Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research (https://www.isd-research.de/isd-research) invites applications for a Group Leader Position – Neurovascular Biology.

Scope of duties

  • The call is embedded in an ambitious recruitment effort aimed at complementing interdisciplinary research in the Munich Cluster for Systems Neurology (SyNergy) funded by the German Excellence Strategy. 
  • The position will be located at the Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research (ISD) and will be associated with the Excellence Cluster SyNergy. 
  • The position initially is for 5 years, but can be extended subject to positive evaluation.
  • We are searching for outstanding basic and translational scientists specializing in neurovascular biology, who are committed to advancing technology, unraveling mechanisms, and engaging in larger collaborative networks. 
  • Preference will be given to applicants focusing on disease-related topics, such as ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, small vessel disease, arterial malformations or cerebral aneurysms. 
  • A track record in cellular biology, data science or cell-cell communication is a plus, but outstanding candidates from all fields of neurovascular biology are encouraged to apply. 

Our requirements

  • A doctoral degree is required. 
  • Early career investigators within 6 years after their doctorate are particularly encouraged to apply. 
  • The successful candidate is expected to have an excellent record of innovative research and academic performance as well as high potential for establishing a rigorous and independent research program. 
  • International research exposure is a plus.

  • Submission Deadline: June 6th, 2025. Interviews are planned for the second half of July 2025.

  • The ISD and the SyNergy Cluster strive to provide newly appointed research group leaders with various types of support. The appointment is made at the LMU University Hospital (LMU Klinikum).

  • Remuneration is based on the Collective Agreement for the Public Sector of the Länder (TV-L) including all allowances customary in the public sector.
