Hinweise für ausländische Studierende

Thank you very much for your interest in an Orthopedic clerkship with us. In principle, you are welcome to sit in on our courses. It is, however, the University and specifically the International Office for Medicine which is responsible for organising foreign students. Please first check the application procedure: https://www.en.med.uni-muenchen.de/undergraduate/incoming-students/application/index.html (Mrs. Lechner).

You also need to be aware of the following:

  • As a guest student you have to be financially independent. Munich is a very expensive city.
  • There is no realistic possibility of finding somewhere inexpensive for you to live. Accommodation in Munich is hard to find.
  • It is a pure observership, which means a classic student internship/clinical elective.
  • Without a good knowledge of German, you will draw only limited benefit from this guest visit.

It is also essential that you understand and organise the following:

  1. As a matter of principle, this kind of internship cannot lead to a contract of employment or a regular training place.
  2. We need a copy of your passport, your CV and a matriculation certificate from your university, e.g. as a PDF document.
  3. We need a letter of support from your dean or dean of studies for this clinical elective abroad.
  4. You need a health certificate: https://www.en.med.uni-muenchen.de/undergraduate/incoming-students/joint-programs/downloads/fb_12_21_medical-certificate.pdf
  5. We cannot guarantee inexpensive accommodation at the hospital. You can send an e-mail to the caretaker Mr. Meier (Hmeie (at) med.uni-muenchen.de) and ask whether he has an apartment for the period concerned, but since there are not enough of them, this is often not possible.
  6. After the confirmation from the International Students Office has been sent, we shall send you an invitation to the internship requested.
  7. At the same time, we shall send a copy of the invitation to the Federal Border Police.
  8. Be sure to note that it is later recorded on your visa that you are permitted to attend an unpaid internship at the LMU University Hospital.
  9. If you receive an invitation from us but do not appear at the correct time (for whatever reason), we are required to notify both the Federal Border Police and the German Embassy in your country. We shall also inform the person who supported your application.

Yours faithfully,

Prof. Dr. Hans Roland Dürr
