Research
The Psychiatric Hospital of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) has a distinguished tradition of scientific excellence. Renowned pioneers such as Emil Kraepelin, founder of modern psychiatry, and Alois Alzheimer made groundbreaking contributions while working here.
As a university hospital, scientific research is naturally one of our top priorities. Recognized as one of Germany’s leading psychiatric research institutions, we remain steadfast in our commitment to conducting research that directly benefits people. To uphold this principle, the majority of our projects and studies are funded by independent sponsors, including the federal government.
Our scientific departments are home to numerous research groups exploring a wide range of topics. These include innovative brain stimulation techniques, the development of tailored psychotherapy programs, and the early detection of mental illnesses using advanced imaging technologies, to name just a few. Whether you’re a doctor, scientist, student, or simply an interested layperson, you can explore the full scope of our research activities and publications here. Additionally, the hospital offers a variety of opportunities for postgraduate students. We look forward to welcoming you!
